The name ‘Leopards Rugby Referees Association’ came into being in 2000. Previously the Western Transvaal Rugby Referee Society, it was founded in 1920. The Association has 84 active members and 16 non-active members.
Piet Bosman, who served as the Society’s secretary for 19 years, was the first president of a rugby union to referee an international match when, in 1953, he oversaw Western Transvaal against the Wallabies.
